To eliminate performance drift and proactively address energy savings on a broader level, Banner and ClimaCheck partner, ETC Group created a system that would be replicated across Banner’s facilities.

A drastic energy saving was achieved where daily energy use decreased from 4 100 kWh to 2 500 kWh (39%) which allowed extending opening from 258 to 315 days (22%) the optimisation resulted in a reduced carbon footprint of 219 metric tons.

Measurements show that performance and reliability can be significantly improved by low or relatively low cost measurements as listed below. Several of the measures are required to ensure reliability and life time expectancy of the system but will significantly improve the performance as well.

Emerging Energy Solutions tested one of two air cooled Trane CGAM chillers located on building 2 at ViaSat’s corporate campus in Carlsbad, CA. with a ClimaCheck onsite system.

The estimated yearly energy consumption of the Refrigeration System is now approximately 654,000 kWh which represents an energy saving of approximately 123,000kWh per year (approximately 16% energy saving)

Measurements supervised and analyzed by third party consultants over the following week, with similar climate conditions, proved that an energy saving of 25% had been achieved.

ETC Group conducted chiller testing using a portable ClimaCheck chiller analyzer at Desert Medical center on chillers 3, 5, and 6. Sections 2 and 3 include details for each measure

Intermountain Healthcare requested ETC Group to provide chiller plant testing and analysis using ClimaCheck on 3 chillers at the McKay Dee Medical Center.

The measurements pinpointed that insufficient control of super heat at part-load operation was the cause of several earlier unexplained compressor failures.
