Using the ClimaCheck method gives you control over a big, if not the biggest, energy consumer in facilities and makes it possible to optimise it. HVACR-systems often stands for 40-60% of a buildings total electricity consumption. Companies working with ClimaCheck are saving energy (approx. 10-30%) and money, both in lowered electricity cost and thanks to more stable system with less losses in valuable goods.

Four chillers, fridge and freezer system for food and drinks. Yearly energy consumption 863 526 kWh.
– 225,000 kWh annual energy savings
– 26% Lower energy consumption
– Decreased CO2 emission with 200+ ton
VALUE DELIVERED (Phase I)
– $3.8M annual savings
– 14M kWh annual energy savings
– 88K dth annual energy savings
– Exceeded estimates by ~$1M
“We continue working with Honeywell to verify energy performance through monitoring three retrofitted stores with Climacheck equipment (independently verified data). Our experience, together with Honeywell’s technical support on the refrigerant, have made the retrofit process problem-free.”
– 200,000* kWh annually
– $20,000* annually
– 10% to 20% savings per chiller
– 803,100 kWh/year
Banner Health was looking for ways to maximise the results (long term) from a chiller plant energy project at their Thunderbird campus. The chiller plant serves the 5 buildings on campus comprised of 6 York YK chillers with VFDs and a waterside economizer piped in parallel to the chillers.
With the temp sensor corrected and additional changes being implemented to the MT which resulted in savings between 30 – 35%.
Reducing the condensing temperature saves typically 1-2% per degree F. A state of the art air-cooled chiller could operate 10-15°F lower, thus providing a saving potential of 10-20%.
Total savings from low or medium cost investments are estimated to
– 160 000 kWh/year for Chiller 1,
– 29 000 kWh/year for Chiller 2
– 27 500 kWh/year for Chiller 3
further reliability and capacity will increase significantly.
The test indicated that circuit B had a problem with high condensing pressure which caused an excess consumption in energy of 35% for this circuit.
The estimated yearly energy consumption of the Refrigeration System is now approximately 654,000 kWh which represents an energy saving of approximately 123,000kWh per year (approximately 16% energy saving)
Measurements supervised and analysed by third party consultants over the following week, with similar climate conditions, proved that an energy saving of 25% had been achieved.
The measurements also clearly indicated that further savings and increased reliability would be achieved if system circuiting were modified
ETC Group conducted chiller testing using a portable ClimaCheck chiller analyser at Desert Medical center on chillers 3, 5, and 6.
The hook up of the ClimaCheck took approximately 1 hour. The facilities personnel did assist with the hook up of the CT Clamps and power connection. All the temperature sensors and pressure transducers were hooked by Joel Klobas of Emerging Energy Solutions. After spending about an hour to fine tune the ClimaCheck, we started to see an issue with the evaporator, KW per Ton and the capacity.
– 411,100 kWh/year
Compressors on the measured circuit has very much lower efficiency than showing from compressor software and condenser is showing poor performance. The systems should be checked so indication of low compressor efficiency is not caused by hot gas leaking backwards from some device/connection.
Total achieved savings for the seven month testperiod in these six stores were 318 000 Euro with a payback time of less than three months. After the pilot study around 100 stores has been equipped with fixed ClimaCheck monitoring systems.
By tracking all relevant measurements with ClimaCheck, it is possible to improve performance by 10-15 %.
“We’re thus saving 100–150,000 SEK a year thanks to smart monitoring,” says Kenneth enthusiastically. “Without such sophisticated monitoring equipment, it wouldn’t be practically possible. Every ice hall and sports facility in the country could potentially be saving serious money this way. In my opinion, ClimaCheck is essential if you want to gain control over operating costs at a large facility.”
Time used for measurement was 2 hours and part load solenoids that was not beneficial for this plant was deactivated: Annual operating cost decreased with 5000 Euro and removed high risk of future compressor failures
EWS ‘tune up’ cuts energy losses and reduces carbon emissions
Savings of more than 50% can be achieved by fitting the latest inverter drivers to HVAC systems. For example one company reduced its power consumption from 450,000kWk per year down to 120,000 kWh, shaving £18,900 of its energy bill and 158 tons CO2

Portland rooftop units
Washington County analyses their AC units to save energy. ClimaCheck was used to document overall performance and behavior of the systems. Low cost adjustments will improve the EER/COP with 10-25% on many of the units and decrease the wear.
